Telehealth & Medicare Eligibility
Telehealth consultations are available for eligible patients and may offer a convenient and accessible way to access ongoing healthcare and follow-up support.
Under current Medicare requirements, Medicare rebates for telehealth services are generally only available where a patient has attended a face-to-face consultation within the previous 12 months. Patients who have not yet attended an in-person consultation may still access telehealth appointments; however, these consultations will be privately billed where Medicare eligibility requirements are not met.
Once an eligible face-to-face consultation has occurred, follow-up telehealth consultations may then attract Medicare rebates for the following 12 months, provided current Medicare eligibility requirements continue to be met.
Where Medicare rebates apply, patients may be asked to complete a Medicare assignment of benefit acknowledgement as part of the claiming process.
